Activities to Include in Your Arizona Elopement

Who doesn’t love the desert? Beautiful weather year-round (well, except maybe those scorching hot summer months), exquisite landscapes of red and orange, and so many adventurous activities to do. It’s no wonder couples want to elope in Arizona—I sure would! 

Eloping is more than just saying “I do” in front of a witness and calling it good. You can include as many, or as few, activities as you want in your day to signify the love you have for each other. Especially if they’re activities you love doing together! But it can be hard choosing how to plan out your day, so I’m here to help you out. Here’s my list of activities to include in your Arizona elopement—and boy are they good ones! 

Hiking

Of course, we can’t start the list off with anything other than hiking. What else do you go to the desert for?! Arizona is known for its incredible outdoor recreation space and for good reason! There are so many incredible trails and hikes leading to incredible views you just can’t get anywhere else. So let’s lace up those hiking boots, grab our backpacks, and head out on a magical hike through canyons, red rocks, and cacti, perfectly capturing your love for one another. 

Helicopter Ride

Imagine getting to see the Grand Canyon, one of the United States’ greatest natural treasures, from a bird’s-eye view AND marry the love of your life on the same day? Well, you definitely can! All you need is a helicopter and a whole lot of love. Just imagine you get to share your vows right down in the desert and then hop on a helicopter and see it all from above. Sounds like a once-in-a-lifetime experience to me in more ways than one. 

Rent a “Getaway” Car

No, I don’t mean your getaway car from robbing a bank—we’re not in a James Bond movie here! (Although, I’m all for themed elopements!) What I mean is this: in traditional weddings once the ceremony is over, they often drive off into the sunset in a limo with a sign saying “Just Married” on the back, right? Well, why not do just that? Except this time you can rent a badass Camaro or Mustang and drive off into a desert sunset with no one else around! Talk about the most fitting way to end an adventurous day.

Include Your Furry BFF

If you love your dog as much as I love mine (which, now that I think about it, may not actually be possible), you’re probably already thinking about including them on your day. As you should! Your pets are just as important to you as anyone else, so having them there while you say your vows makes the day even more special. I will never say no to bringing along the furry BFFs! (As long as the weather and trails allow!)

Horseback Riding

When you think of Arizona, you think of the Wild Wild West (or at least I do). You know what I’m talking about—those movies where the tumbleweeds are rolling around in the background and cowboys ride in on their horses to save the townsfolk from an out-of-town swindler. Well, what better way to pay homage to the “history” of Arizona than to include horseback riding on your elopement day! Plus, horses just add a little bit of elegance to any landscape, right? Just imagine horseback riding to a secluded location for an after ceremony picnic and then riding off into the sunset. All I can say is wow. 

Hot Air Balloon Ride

I saved the best for last—a hot air balloon ride! While you might think this is similar to a helicopter ride, it’s quite different. You’ll still have those once-in-a-lifetime views from above the mountains and canyons, but nothing compares to a hot air balloon as your vehicle for flying around in the clouds during an Arizona sunrise. It really is a fairytale ride on the most magical day—I’m not crying, you are.
