Rough Ridge Engagement & After-Wedding Photos

I have never been more inspired leaving a session. This was supposed to be an engagement session for Midori and Barton, but they eloped last minute the week before our session. We ended up morphing their session into an engagement + after-wedding session in Rough Ridge and I honestly could not have loved it more!

We took these engagement & after-wedding photos at Rough Ridge, which is the place Midori had been eyeing since she saw some of my previous work that I had done there.

Their love is so contagious and so pure and that is so evident through this gorgeous Rough Ridge engagement and after-wedding session.

We started the session off with some engagement-style photos with their 4 month old Rotweiler named Kuma. (Who definitely stole the show with his leather bow tie!) Kuma means “bear” in Japanese, which is where Midori grew up. How cool is that?

 

They are probably the most interesting couple – like, ever. They love to travel, have summited a mountain, and got engaged in Japan on a rowboat under the cherry blossoms, listening to their favorite songs. Like seriously? I can’t make this stuff up!

To add onto that, Barton grew up in Texas, lived in Brazil and speaks fluent Portuguese. Midori is Hawaiian, grew up in Japan and because of that, speaks fluent Japanese. I secretly wish I could be as cool as them…

They are 100% my ideal client. Choosing to disregard the opinions of others and forgo a traditional wedding to do what feels true to them and their relationship is so admirable.

 

 

For their after-wedding photos, Barton wore this really awesome maroon suit that looked absolutely amazing with the fall colors that surrounded us. It was peak week for the leaves in Boone, North Carolina when this shoot occurred. I had never shot a wedding with a colored suit like this and all I have to say is… Hell. Yes. to colored suits! *praise hands*

 

This whole session I was completely click happy. We hiked around and took sooo many photos. My sessions are normally and hour and a half… but we shot for about 3 hours. I didn’t want to stop after we lost light, so I took them to a nearby overlook and shot some silhouette photos with them. After we finished, we sat down and shared some of the wine and cheese that they brought and got to know each other. I asked them when they fell in love, when they knew they loved one another and all that gushy stuff. I honestly got so emotional listening to them, and once again, this is why I love what I do. These people are it, man.

 

I didn’t realize I was in a creative rut until I walked away from this shoot in Rough Ridge, Blue Ridge Parkway feeling so artistic and excited about my career. Forever thankful for clients that ignite my creativity and make me fall in love with photography all over again.
