Best Time of Year to Elope in the Desert

There is nothing better than experiencing the perfect Arizona sunset with rays of golden light glittering across the sky, illuminating canyons and red rock. Just thinking about it makes me smile. I love the desert, but I loooove desert elopements more. There’s just something about the vast landscape filled with pinks, reds, and oranges as the background to a perfect day.

Of course, Phoenix can be quite toasty at certain times of the year and during particular seasons there are more tourists. This might cause couples to question what time of year would be best to elope there. I mean, you don’t want to be dripping sweat as you say your vows or actively trying to avoid a mass of tourists so strangers won’t end up in your photos. Don’t worry, though, I’ve got you covered. I’ve put together a list of my favorite tips for choosing the best time of year to elope in the desert. 

1. Go in the Off-Season

Phoenix is known for its incredible sunset views, but let’s be honest, no one wants to try figuring out the best spots to avoid large crowds while planning their desert elopement. You want to focus on finding the spot(s) YOU enjoy the most. My best tip is to avoid going when the most tourists will be there. This way you might even be able to avoid crowds altogether. 

2. Avoid the Summer

There is nothing worse than stepping outside of your cool, air-conditioned car and immediately starting to sweat. Yes, this happens in the desert. I mean, in AZ the temps can be consistently over 100 degrees all summer. Granted, the evenings are cool, but that typically means the sun is already down for the count. But summer isn’t the only time of year you can capture those magnificent desert sunsets or enjoy breathtaking views as you say “I Do,” after all, the canyons aren’t going anywhere. 

3. Avoid Planning During Busy Times

In popular Phoenix locations, there are often plenty of events going on throughout the year. While they might be fun, eloping couples should try to avoid planning their day during one of these events. Events draw big crowds, meaning prices for places to stay might skyrocket and there’s the potential you may not be able to do all the activities you want. When planning your elopement, just be cautious of any big festivals or events during the week you may want to elope. And if you need help planning, I’m more than happy to lend a helping hand!

4. Go Whenever You Dang Well Please

Yep, you read that right! The truth is, it’s your day. This means you get to decide when you want to elope. If you want to go in the dead of summer or during a time known to be busy, by all means, GO FOR IT!
